Highlights from Berwyn’s Tree Inventories: 2014 to 2022

Berwyn lost a surprising number of trees in the eight years between its most recent tree inventories, when all our parkway trees were documented:

1 in 6 parkway trees cut down and not replaced

2643 trees removed and 469 trees planted.

Berwyn parkway tree count: In 2014 there were 12,981 trees, in 2022 there were 10, 807 trees. In 8 years we lost 2,174 trees.

At the current rate of planting, the city cannot reach its tree canopy goals. That’s why the city needs to change its policy, and start planting parkways as needed! > Sign our petition for a proactive tree planting policy

Berwyn's Goal: 23 percent tree canopy by 2032.

As of summer 2024, Berwyn is behind schedule, planting only about 160 trees per year. The city needs to plant 250 trees per year to meet its goal.
