Get Involved

There are lots of ways you can help make a greener Berwyn! You can make a difference. Here are just some of the ways you can get involved…

Sign our petition – Berwyn needs to change their tree planting policy, to start putting trees in the parkways as needed, instead of only when a homeowner actively requests one. > Sign our proactive tree planting petition now! (Note: the petition website, Change.org, will ask you for a donation… that doesn’t actually go to us! If you want to donate to BTCI, visit our Give page.)

Reach out to your alderman – Let your city council representative know that you support more tree planting and quality tree care in Berwyn! > look up your aldermanic representative on the Berwyn city website (includes link to a ward map) – give them a call or write them, to say you want to see more city trees, and good tree care.

Get a FREE tree planted in your parkway – If there isn’t a tree on the parkway in front of your home between the sidewalk and street, ask the city to plant one! Trees are planted every spring and fall – get your request in early! Visit the City website for details or go straight to the City’s tree request form. You can also email RequestATree@ci.berwyn.il.gov (Note: Currently, requests must come from property owners. Also note, some homes have public land on the ‘other side’ of the sidewalk, which is also eligible for a street tree!)

Plant trees in your yard – Your yard can support at least a tree or two… or even a whole miniature forest! Read the Morton Arboretum’s guide to choosing a tree. Also, did you know an 8-by-8 foot patch of yard can support five native trees and six native shrubs? Learn more online about planting your own “pocket forest.”

Talk to your neighbors – Tell your neighbors about Berwyn’s FREE parkway tree program! Talk to your Berwyn-based friends about the benefits of planting trees in their yards! > Learn the benefits of trees (includes flyer to download and share)

Join our group – Help with our efforts to impact Berwyn city tree policies, and plan events! We meet on the third Thursday of each month. The location changes, so contact us and we’ll let you know where to meet.
